PorchBox’s Picnic Principles

Whether it’s at the beach or a park, summer picnics are the perfect summer afternoon activity.

Follow some of PorchBox’s principles to keep picnics simple, clean, and enjoyable for the whole family.

1. Swap the beach towels for a blanket, tablecloth, or sheet.

Beach towels are nice to sit on, but if you have a lot of food to share, swap for a larger covering as your base. You’ll have so much more room for your spread.

Plus, towels are so small that they get covered in sand very quickly. With a larger area, there will be much more sand-free room.

2. Don’t forget the hand wipes!

Ditch the hand sanitizer which will just spread the sand around on your hands. Hand wipes and baby wipes will keep your hands (and utensils) clean and sanitized!

Want an eco-friendly alternative? Pack some cloth napkins and pop them in the wash at home after.

3. Bring a few cutting boards.

Even if the food is cut and prepped before arriving at the beach, cutting boards make great stable surfaces for sharing and eating. Plus, they can also help weigh down your tablecloths on windy days.

4. Pack your food in sturdy containers.

On windy beach days, no one wants to deal with small baggies that you’ll be chasing down if the wind catches them, that sand can get into easily, or that seagulls can easily eat out of or fly off with. Plus, that’s a lot of plastic waste.

Instead, use reusable takeout containers, Tupperware, or anything with an easy snap on lid. Even desserts (like PorchBox’s Coconut Tapioca Pudding) stay fresh, easy to enjoy, and sand-free packaged in soup cups.

5. Frozen water bottles ❄️

Freeze those water bottles in advance. They’ll make great ice packs, and once they melt a little, will provide refreshing, ice-cold water to drink all day long.

Bring PorchBox to the picnic. With the individually boxed meals designed for take-out, they’ll fit right in. Order our “picnic box” for the perfect on the go meal.
